Last year this time I joined a few people for a hike at Mt. Tom in Pine Creek. Friends know my weaknesses and a hike in Pine Creek is almost always a yes! I was prepping for the scout hike in the Whites and this seemed like a great trail to train on

I could tell you how I love photography and it is all I really know. I could tell you how I value the relationships I make with my clients and am humbled by the trust they put in me. I could tell you how I’ve had my pictures printed in Time magazine, USA Today and various regional and industry specific publications. I could tell you how I quit my job and traveled the country for 3 months, hiking , camping and meeting new people. And when I say it was the epic trip of a lifetime, I’m not lying. I could tell you that I have two of the most amazing kids I’ve ever met and that I feel truly blessed to be called their mom. I could tell you how I foster Australian cattle dogs with a rescue and how shelter dogs are so misunderstood and just want to give love and be loved. I could tell you about all of the industry related photo jobs I’ve had and some interesting stories to go along with them. I could tell you that when I decided to open my first studio in 2001, I didn’t have a business plan or give it much thought besides wanting to put my degree in photography to use and take pictures. I could tell you how I have had more people than I can count who have told me that they hate getting their picture taken, then later tell me how much they loved the pictures I made of them and how much fun they had. I could tell you that my goal when taking your picture is not to just get a good picture, but to get a natural expression by connecting and making you feel comfortable. And I’m pretty good at it too. I could tell you that I have my dream job and I never take for granted how incredible it is and that I still get overwhelmed by the fact that people allow me into some of the most intimate moments of their lives. I could tell you that I love the thrill of being thrown into an unknown situation and having to make the best possible pictures given whatever conditions. There are many other things I could share here but creating pictures is not about me, it’s about the subject in the picture; telling their story at that moment in time, whether it’s a wedding, an editorial portrait or documenting an event.
